This month, we catch up with Steve, Luke and Henry, Founders of Saunas By The Sea and learn about the health benefits of hot temperature bathing.

Relaxation Mode Activated

Positioned amongst the spectacular scenery of arguably one of the UK’s most desired holiday destinations – North Cornwall, which offers golden sands, surfing and quiet secluded coves, Saunas By The Sea promote all year-round good health with balance and tranquility.

Each sauna having at its heart a large wood fired stove, beautiful thermo treated timbers and soft back lighting to ensure full relaxation mode is activated. It really is the perfect setting to unwind alone or with friends, and watch storms pass by. Stopping for just enough time to unwind, sweat it out and run into the freezing cold waves afterwards (if you’re feeling brave enough!).

We caught up with Steve, Luke and Henry – Founders and picked their brains about their fab business…

Early Days

A small but mighty team make up Saunas By The Sea – Steve, Luke and Henry. Steve explains “We started this company roughly two years ago, Henry and I are carpenters, and with ideas from Luke on how to make it a successful company, we combined our knowledge of the area and found some beautiful locations for our first two saunas.

From building each sauna in our workshop for ourselves and now creating bespoke home and garden saunas for all over the UK, it had become a part of our lives that we are very passionate about.”

“There really is no better feeling than to be enveloped in the heat of a sauna, the health benefits alone have inspired us to bring these magical moments for people to easily enjoy. Speaking from my personal point of view as someone who enjoys working out, you can only train or push yourself as fast or as hard for so long, recovery really is key. So having this opportunity to heal and relax at the same time, for body and mind rejuvenation, was one of our main goals for others to also enjoy.”

Future Plans

“Our newest addition to the business will be open shortly in the heart of Polzeath – a new wellness hub that will include a shop full of beautiful products, different saunas, filtered and temperature controlled plunge tanks, a therapy tent for massage, reflexology and more! There will be a large canvas tent holding workshops, yoga, pilates and sound baths. And lets not forget our fire pit area with botanicals to sit around and put the world to rights – a space to come, read a book and escape the madness outside our walls.

We are always on the look out for new, beautiful beach side locations as well as aiming to expand and bring this amazing experience to many different people by building saunas for them at home. We each have our own, so we really are preaching the sauna life!”

What Do You All Love To Do In Your Downtime?

Steven explains that “Henry loves pretending he’s Spiderman, going regularly bouldering at the Tide Climbing Centre near Wadebridge, before turning underground to discover the beautiful hidden caves of Cornwall.

Luke currently has his hands full with a new addition to the family, but still enjoys a spot of paddle tennis when he can, in between owning and running The Cracking Crab Beach Cafe & Restaurant in Polzeath.

I frequently visit the amazing CrossFit Onen gym in Wadebridge, before hitting the sauna of course! And lately I’ve discovered a brand new love for swimming!”

Where’s Your Favourite Place To Eat?

We are all big foodies and super lucky to have some great opportunities to dine out around us. Ranging from The Mariners in Rock, the St Kew Farm Shop & Cafe, to One Day Cafe in Wadebridge, The Pig Hotel at Harlyn Bay and of course Luke’s The Cracking Crab Beach Cafe & Restaurant in Polzeath.

Each of these are at the top of their game with food but more importantly, the people working there. They really are some of the most friendliest bunch around.”

Whats Your Favourite Place In Cornwall?

Steven: “For me, it’s our surrounding areas of Port Isaac, Polzeath, Rock and Padstow. I’m obviously massively bias but it’s the people that make the place, and for me, seeing friends and family on a daily basis comes first to the beautiful surroundings we live in.”

Henry: ” It has to be Polzeath. It’s my home village and I have so many great memories with family and friends there. There’s plenty of great things to do and see in the area, both in and out of the water. Also, there’s a sauna on the beach.”

Luke: “I love the coastline between Rock and Polzeath, and a good old stomp with the dog up and over Bray hill, ending up at either The Mariners in Rock or the Cracking Crab in Polzeath. Whatever the weather, it’s a lovely walk and picturesque, and the whole family loves a rock pool or two!”
