We recently caught up with Sarah who runs the St Kew Farmshop & Cafe – a must stop if you’re visiting the area! Watch the full video of our catch up HERE.
Starting Out
With food being her main passion, Sarah’s love of fresh produce and good food drove her and partner Josh to re-think the original family farmshop, renovate and open this small but mighty store on the St Kew Highway in December 2017. With a vision to create a haven of well-made, quality goods from makers, artists, coffee roasters and breweries, all the way to local farmers with fresh local produce. Over the years it has slowly developed into also offering a small collection of house plants and in the summer months – garden shrubbery as well. And let’s not forget the mouth-wateringly amazing cafe (also open Mon – Sat)!
The Recent Expansion
After the success of the newly-reimagined shop and cafe, the space over time became jam packed full of Cornish-made products and produce, alongside books, homewares and plants, alongside the original farm shop offerings. But it soon meant they’d already outgrown the space. It was clear what people enjoyed about visiting the farm shop, but it was time to make it a better shopping experience overall and relaxed place to stop and chill with a coffee and something to eat. So recently, the opportunity arose to expand the shop, giving it much needed breathing space!
Plans For The Future
Now fully up and running within the new expanded space, Sarah throws weekly Friday events at the farm shop for all visitors – with food being served outside from their chicken trailer til the end of Sept, and then moving onto pizza nights, served from their wood fired oven in the cafe itself throughout winter. Just the thought is making our bellies rumble!
With the St. Kew Cafe & Farmshop remaining open all year round, expect wreath-making classes leading up to Christmas, late night shopping opportunities too, plus pop up opportunities and more, keeping everyone on their toes and wanting to keep visiting.
Sarah’s Favourite Food & Drink Haunts
Having a soft spot for visiting different cafe’s around the Cornish coast, Sarah’s favourite local haunt right now is Four Boys, a casual restaurant overlooking the estuary in Rock. With no need to book, she loves just rocking up, rolling in and enjoying the most incredible food with a view to die for. Also another new find for Sarah is newly opened One Day Cafe in Wadebridge, who create everything in-house including their fabulous cakes. And if she had to choose a local dinner spot for the evening, a regular go-to would be the St Kew Inn – they have a huge garden space for al-fresco dining and superb seasonal options on the menu from in-house smoked meats to incredible Sunday roasts.
After Work Hangouts
After a busy day running the farmshop and cafe, Sarah loves nothing more than to head straight to the beach, her first choice being Polzeath for an evening surf or swim to fully unwind and relax. Even in the busy summer months when the beach can be pretty busy, just getting into the water can make her day complete. However, admitting she also loves to switch off by lying down on a sun bed, should the weather not be in her favour, Consol in Newquay can be just the ticket too!
