Introducing Hawkers Surfboards

“Hawkers Surfboards specialises in creating high-quality, handcrafted wooden surfboards with a truly unique design. Each board is meticulously crafted by hand, ensuring the utmost attention to detail and precision. I combine traditional techniques with modern technology to create surfboards that perform exceptionally well in the water and stand out with an individual aesthetic.

My commitment to using sustainably sourced, premium materials ensures that every board is a work of art and an eco-friendly choice for surf enthusiasts. Experience the thrill of riding waves on a truly one-of-a-kind wooden surfboard.

How did it first start out and how long has it been going for?

Hawkers Surfboards was founded in 2010 with a vision to create unique, hand-crafted wooden surfboards, paddle boards, belly boards and hand planes.

After years of shaping boards for myself in a hamlet on the Cornish coast, experimenting with ideas, designs, and materials, I pursued my passion and launched Hawkers Surfboards.

Any exciting future business plans?

Hawkers Surfboards is now based in Wadebridge. I want to invite people to come down to create their own special wooden craft. I also plan on working with local galleries to host an exhibition to showcase the boards and tell my story!

What do you love to do in your downtime?

When I have the time, I like to walk around St Agnes, where my partner and I live. It’s beautiful in the winter when the sun is shining, and the wind is howling. It gets the oxygen in my lungs and is ready for the day!

Where’s your favourite place to eat George?

My partner and I have a nice ritual. When we have the time, we head down to the Cove Café in Perranporth for breakfast and then go for a walk. If the weather is nice, we’ll head down to the beach and see what the sea is doing.

Where’s your favourite place in Cornwall and why?

My favourite places have to be where I grew up and spent most of my life: Hawkers Cove and Stepper Point. I spent over 20 years of my life living there. The headland is where I started shaping surfboards. It’s where the name Hawkers came from, and I feel that spending so much time there has a lot to do with where I am today.”
